Treatment for Asthma

a. Treatment at Home

  • Inhale steam. This will dilate the airways and help in loosening the mucous and its coming out.
  • Drink warm water or any other warm liquid such as soup or lime juice.
  • put hot water bag on chest and abdomen.
  • Do rigorous massage on the upper and middle back.
  • Lie on your stomach on the bed with chest and head coming out of the bed and stooping towards the floor with the help of hands resting on floor. Have someone thumbing or hacking your back with his hands for a few minutes. This helps to loosen the mucous and allowing it to come out with the help of gravity. It is important to cough out as much mucous as possible. The above technique of removal of cough is known as chest percussion and postural drainage.
  • Sit in a comfortable position on a chair or stool leaning on a table with your head on a pillow. Now breath in forcibly through one nostril which is more open and force air out through the mouth. Hold breath for a few seconds, then repeat. Make sure that your breathing is abdominal i.e. during inhaling your stomach should come out and during exhalation, it should go in.
b. Medical Treatment
  • Administering oxygen through nose in case the attack has been very severe and has resulted into a deficiency of oxygen in the blood.
  • Expanding the airways and inhibiting the production of secretions by bronchodilator drugs like Deriphylline, Salbuta - mol ( Asthaline), Theophylline, Aminophylline. Side - effects of these drugs are mainly adverse effect on heart in the form of palpitation. Bronchodilators are given either in the form of tablets or injections or spray in a pressurized aerosol for inhalation.
  • Giving intravenous glucose - saline, if the patient seems dehydrated. If Asthma attack is not adequately controlled by bronchodilators, corticosteriod drugs may have to be given. If there is lung infection, suitable antibiotic drugs also need one to be given.

Do and Don ' ts

1. Rise early in morning, sunrise is a sensitive period for asthmatics and they should be active at sunrise and not lying down.
2. When you get out of bed in the morning, immediately put on a warm covering
3. Bath in warm water in winter. Don 't go out right after a bath
4. Avoid direct cold breeze on the face, as this causes a spasm and production of mucus in the sinuses
5. Don't walk barefoot. Keep your feet warm
6. Take morning walk in fresh air
7. At night go to sleep early and at regular hour
8. Have the dinner light and at least two hours before sleeping

Causes of Asthma

1. Allergy

Asthma is prominently an allergic disorder. Allergy is an abnormal reaction of the body to a normally harmless substance. Substances like pollens of flowers, spores of fungi, house dust, eggs, fish, wheat, nickel, chromium or milk are harmless to most people, except those who are allergic to them. These are called allergens. The body opposes such an allergen or antigen by producing antibodies.

When the offending allergen and antibodies react, substances like histamine and serotonin are released into the blood stream. These released substances give rise to various manifestations of allergy like spasm (involuntary contraction) of the muscles of lung airways in case of asthma and other types of symptoms in other cases.

2. Heredity

The hereditary factor in Asthma is well recongnized for the disease frequently appears to be passed on from one generation to another within a family. Even where no positive family history of asthma is detected, there is often a family tendency to some other allergic disorder. Infact what is inherited is allergy and not a particular manifestation of allergy. Aparent may have asthma and amongst his sons, one may have eczema and the other sneezing. Similarly a person may have eczema in childhood, develop sneezing when he grows up and then may contract asthma. Asthma, seasonal or perennial sneezing, urticaria (swelling and redness of skin) and eczema are many and different manifestations of one condition called allergy. About 50% of asthma patients give a family history of either asthma or some other from of allergy.

3. Psychological Causes

Psychological factors are well recognized in the onset of Asthma. At the psychological levels, suppression of negative emotions such as jealousy, anger, resentment and hatred is often a precipitating cause, as are loneliness, longing for affection, emotional hypersensitivity, fear of rejection and hesitation in life.

Generally the asthmatic is one who has undergone some from of painful rejection or loss early in life which he has been unable to accept subconsciously, even if his conscious mind has come to terms with it.The sufferer feels he is all alone without anyone to depend on, fighting for his very existence as symbolized by his elusive breath.

4. Infection

Infection makes an allergy prone individual getting symptoms of allergy. A preexisting sensitivity to specific allergen may become manifest in the presence of infection.

5.Climate

Asthma can also arise during changing climatic condition and incidence of attacks is higher in the winter and rainy season in the tropics. The reason is that when cold air strikes yours lungs. it constricts the tiny blood vessels which must extract oxygen from the air you breath. The result is reduced oxygen . This is taxing on your bronchial respiratory tubes and your heart, too

Similarly in humid atmosphere, the amount of water vapour in the air is greatly increased. It lowers the pressure of oxygen in the air which reduces the diffusion of oxygen in the blood for more respiratory effort to bring in the same oxygen in the body.

6. High Altitude

Going to higher altitudes also becomes the problem for Asthmatic patients. At high altitudes, the atomospheric pressure decreases and concentration of oxygen in the air also reduces resulting in reduced diffusion of oxygen in the body and calling for more respiratory efforts.

7. Diet and Life Style

Unhealthy diet and lifestyle also play a role in the genesis of asthma. A low residue, mucus producing diet consisting of excessive refined carbohydrate products like bread and cakes, ghee and oily preparations, milk and milk products is the common culprit. Besides producing mucous, this diet is excessively taxing on the asthmatic ' s preweakened digestive processes.

Asthma problem can aggravate in those types of occupation and places which are full of pollution, dirt and those allergens which a person is allergic to.

Asthma

Asthma is characterized by narrowing of lung airways (bronchi) and excessive production of mucus secretions in the airways. It makes respiration difficult and a feeling of breathlessness and suffocation in chest is felt by the sufferer.

Types of Asthma

There are two types of Asthma;

1. Bronchial Asthma - So called because the trouble occurs in the bronchi

2. Cardiac Asthma - Here the basic problem lies in the heart and breathlessness is due to heart failure.

The asthma that is normally talked about is bronchial asthma and we shall deal only with this in the present chapter.

Control of Hyptension

1. Weight Reduction ; Your B.P. will fall by about 1.5 mm of Hg for every kg of weight loss.

2. Reduction of salt intake:(not more than 5-6 gm of salt per day).B.P.patients can use potassium salt salt.To reduce salt intake, limit eating processed, canned foods, pickles, chutneys, papads, salted peanuts, wafers, potato chips etc. as they contain lot of salt.

3. Aerobic Exercises:Walking, running, swimming, cycling, sports etc. can reduce your resting blood pressure by 5-10 mm of Hg. This happens because of two reasons. First by aerobic exercises, arteries are dilated, so heart has to apply less pressure to send the same amount of blood. secondary, aerobic exercises increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) and reduce harmful (LDL) cholesterol in blood which leads to reduction in blood pressure applied by the heart.

4. yogasanas and stretching Exercises: They relax muscles and promote free flow of blood leading to lowering to lowering of B.P.However, those exercises in which body is held upside down or the head remains below the level of heart for some time and those exercises which require holding of breath for some time, should be avoided.

5. Reduce Alcohol intake

6.Stop smoking

7.Reduce intake of sugar , coffee, tea, cola drinks

8.Avoid Saturated Fats ; Limit food having saturated fats ( egg, meat, ghee, butter, whole milk, cream, biscuits, cake, ice - creams, pastries, chocolates etc.) as these increase blood cholesterol. For list of foods having saturated and unsaturated foods and cholesterol content of various saturated foods, please refer to tables 1.4 to 1.7

9.Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium ; They have been found to reduce B.P. Hence foods rich in these minerals should be taken. For example, lemon, banana, potato, peas, broccoli, tomato, cauliflower, sprouts and organ are good sources of potassium.

10.High Intake of Fibres (Soluble Fibres) ;Apple, banana, orange, potato, carrot, tomato, cabbage, beans, are good sources of such fibres. soluble fibre binds to dietary cholesterol and gets it excreted out of body and so indirectly helps in reducing B.P.

11. vitamins: vitamins c,vitamin B3(Niacin) and vitamin E are considered good for lowering High B.P.

12. Relaxation Techniques: Any technique which reduces mental stress and promotes physical and mental relaxation (e.g.massage, music, meditation, humour \laughter, savasana, lying or walking in fresh air in a garden etc.) helps in reduction of High B.P.

13. special food items :some special food items like garlic, amla , honey, lemon juice, onion are considered very effective in lowering High B.P.

14.Intake of Water ; Drink lot of water and more so in the morning in empty stomach . This helps to keep the blood thinner and reduces blood clotting tendency.

15. General Change in Outlook towards Life ; If one makes his outlook towards life a positive one, then he won' t be stressed by life ' s incidents so easily and therefore his B.P. will not rise because of mental stress.

Symptoms of Hypertension

1. Lack of sleep

2. Headaches, especially throbbing pain, which is associated with anger and working under stress

3. dizziness

4. Flushed face on exertion

5. Excessive craving for salt

6. Obesity

7. Increased irritability and tendency to become angry or violent

8. Hurry and impatience and always racing against time.

A rapid or sudden increase in B.P. to very high levels(usually 240/140 Hg or more) frequently leads leads to severe headaches, blurring of vision, drowsiness, vomitting and breathlessness. The requires emergency treatment.

Risk of Hypertension

1. Angina Pectoris & Heart Attack
It is characterized by severe pain in the chest region because coronary arteries supplying blood to the chest region because coronary arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrow and don't expand during during physical activity (because of atherosclerosis leading to narrowing and hardening of arteries), while the heart. at the same time, requires more blood. If the process of atherosclerosis goes unabated, a coronary artery may become too narrow and may get totally blocked. This results in heart attack. The blood vessels of a healthy person are highly elastic and expand and contract accordingly as per the need of the blood requirement for an organ but in the case of High B.P. patient, they become narrow as well as hardened. It is to be noted that atherosclerosis not only causes High B.P. but it is other way round also i.e High B.P ( Caused due to any other reason ) will also aggravate process of atherosclerosis. The proof to this claim is the fact that pulmonary arteries where the B.P. is as low as 35 /15, never develop atherosclerosis.

2. Stroke ( Brain Haemorrhage )

Atherosclerosis also renders the blood vessels brittle brain artery ruptures due to High pressure in the artery, it is termed as ' Stoke ' (bleeding in the brain ). It may also lead to paralysis of some portion of the body.

3. Heart Failure
When B.P. is high, the heart has to work harder. To perform the increased work , the heart muscle thickens and increases in size. The enlargement of the heart is visible in X -rays. For a period of time, despite the increased work load, the heart does well. But there comes a time when it tires and is not able to meet the strain. The result is congestive heart failure. In this situation, the heart doesn 't stop beating but its contractions are weak. With each contraction less volume of the blood is supplied so less blood reaches the tissues of the body and the whole body starts suffering. For example reduced blood supply to legs may lead to early pain and fatigue in legs on walking.

4. Effect on Kidneys
If the B.P. rises, kidneys can't perform their work of blood filtration effectively. Consequently salts and toxins accumulate in the body. Each gm of salt accumulated in the body has a capacity to hold back 70 gm of water from being excreted. Such water retention aggravates heart failure. High B.P. also gradually destroys the cells nutrients through the urine.

5. Eyes are also one of the target organs under attack in H.B.P.

Types of Hypertension

High Blood Pressure is of two types

1.Essential ( or primary) hypertension

2.Secondary hypertension.

The matter in this chapter deals mainly with essential hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused by some disease or disease or disorder in the body e.g.

a. Diseases of the kidneys and endocrine glands- especially the adrenal glands

b. Long standing diabetes mellitus

c. Long term use of oral contraceptives containing oestrogen

d. Use of steroids for many years ( steroids are a group of drugs commonly used for treatment of asthma, some skin disorders etc.)

e.Inborn defects of the ' aorta '

f. pragnancy related disorders, especially during the last three months of pregnancy or immediately after delivery.

Hypertension, Types of hypertension , Systolic blood pressure, Diasystolic blood pressure, Primary blood pressure, Secondary blood pressure.

High Blood Pressure

Blood Pressure Mean

Blood Pressure (B.P ) is merely the pressure that the blood exerts on the blood vessels while circulating. An optimum amount of B.P is essential for ;

a. The return of the blood to the heart, after making its way through more than 60,000 miles long blood vessels of our body.

b. The exchange of nutrients and waste products between the various cells of the body.and the blood capillaries.

c. The filter and therefore purification of the blood in kidneys and lungs.

At every contraction, the heart pumps about 70 ml of blood into the arteries. This quantity is termed as 'stroke volume' . Thus it pushes about 5 liters of blood every minutes. This quantity is termed as cardiac output or CMO.

Cardiac output = stoke volume * heart rate

Systolic and Diastolic B.P

When the rhythmically beating heart contracts, it forcefully drives the blood into the arteries. The pressure at such a time is high and is termed ' Systolic Blood Pressure '. At this time the elastic walls of the large arteries expand.

When the heart relaxes to be filled with blood from various parts of the body the pressure is minimum in the arteries and is termed ' Diastolic B.P'. At this time, the elastic walls of the large arteries recoil. This recoil continues to push the blood forward against the resistance offered by the arterioles.

Temporary Conditions Which Lead to Increase in B.P

Blood pressure becomes higher if you are

  • Mentally stressed, anxious, impatient
  • Constipated
  • In cold weather
B.P becomes temporarily higher after

  • Eating
  • Drinking coffee,tea, alcohol
  • Bathing or showering
  • Exercises
  • Smoking
  • Urination
Causes of Hypertension

1. Heredity

2.Mental tension

3.Excess intake of salt

4.Obesity

5.Sedentary life

6.Smoking

7.Alcohol

8.Diet having saturated fats (see Table 1.4 of the book)

9.Use of fried and too much oily foods.

10.Excess intake of sugar

11.Diabetes

12.Tea, coffee, cold drinks (having caffeine)

Many of the above factors lead to narrowing and hardening of the arteries ( atherosclerosis ) because of deposition of cholesterol in the walls of the arteries. As old age approaches, the artery walls harden and lose much of their elasticity. This is the reason why elderly people have a higher blood pressure than young people have a higher blood pressure than young people. When arteries become narrow and hard (i.e. loss of elasticity to expand and contract ), the blood has to be pushed through greater force by heart leading to High B.P.

Yogic Diet

The yogis of ancient times knew this, and many classical yogic texts, such as the Hatha yoga pradipika, contain advice on a yogic diet. However, proper diet is a controversial subject. Nutrition has been extensively researched by modern science, and there seems to be as many 'proper ' diets as there are scientific studies. It is more than a bit confusing for someone to devise their own individual diet amidst so much, often contradictory, advice.

The advice given below is based on the classical yogic texts and on the author's experience. It also given pointers for further research and experimentation.

Unlike modern scientists, yogis are not interested in the chemical content (protein, vitamins, etc...) of the food. Instead, food is traditionally classified according to its effect on the body and mind, using the three Gunas ; Sattva (the quality of love, light and life), Raja ( the quality of activity and passion, lacking stability ) and Tamas (the quality of darkness and inertia, dragging us into ignorance attachment );

  • Sattvic food promotes clarity calmness of mind and is favourable for spiritual growth. It is ''sweet, fresh and agreeable '' and includes most fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, particularly green leafy vegetables, whole grains, honey, pure water and milk (with the reservation that commercially produced milk may not nowadays be so sattvic...). Given the amount of pesticides and chemical fertilisers used on commercial crops, only organic products still qualify as Sattvic, and tinned or frozen food certainly don't.
  • Rajasic food feeds the body, but promotes activity and therefore induces restlessness of mind. It disturbs the equilibrium of the mind and is generally to be avoided by yoga practionners. Rajasic food include most spicy food, stimulants like coffee and tea, eggs, garlic, onion, meat, fish and chocolate, as well as most processed food. Eating too fast or with a disturbed mind is also considered rajasic. Rajasic food should be avoided by those whose aim is peace of mind, but will benefit people with an active lifestyle. A little rajasic food can be sattvic, for example, hot spices can help digestion, and therefore help create peace of mind
  • Tamasic food ( to be avoided ) induces heaviness of the body and dullness of the mind, and ultimately benefits neither. It includes alcohol, as well as food that is stale or overripe. Overeating is also tamasic. The traditional advice is to fill the stomach half with food, one quarter with water , leaving the last quarter empty.

The nature of food can change. Cooking is the most obvious way to change the nature of food. Grains become sattvic only after cooking. Honey becomes tamasic ( poisonous ) with cooking. The nature of a food also change in combination with other foods and spices, or if it is stored for periods of time.Generally grains should be aged a bit (they become more sattvic ) but of course, fruits shouldn't (they rot and become tamasic ).

How and when to eat is also important. One should not eat too late at night, for there should be a gap of at least two, and preferably 3 to 4 hours between supper and sleep. Food should be prepared and eaten with attention, respect and gratitude. While one should eat to live, rather than live to eat, food should be tasty, so as to be appreciated. The attitude of the person preparing the food is important as well, as the mood of the cook permeated the food. Most Indians still prefer their lunch box prepared at home to lunch in a restaurant for this reason, and some yogis only eat food prepared by themselves or other yogis.

Another important issue with a yogic diet is that of vegetarianism. Not only are fish and meat specifically listed amongst the '' food injurious to the yoga'' by the Hatha yoga pradipika (I,59), but eating the flesh of dead animals violates the first principle of yogic ethics (yamas ) as laid down by patanjali in the yoga Sutras, that of non -violence (ahimsa). Yogia believe that the fear of death permeate every cell the body of an animal when it is slaughtered, and therefore, the traditional yogic diet is lacto - vegetarian and avoids eggs as well as all animal flesh (including fish!) . Indeed modern research has shown that vegetarians are generally in better health than meat eaters. Proteins that can be obtain from nuts, dairy products and legumes are generally of a better quality than meat.

Anyone who has lived for a while on a dairy farm might go as far as questioning the morality of eating dairy products when the milk is taken from a cow whose calf has been taken away and slaughtered. This is a valid point, and while milk is not inherently '' injurious to the yogi '', it may be that in the world we live in, only a vegan diet can really be sattvic, because of the poor treatment of the milking animal, the stress they are subjected to, and the quantity of drugs that they have to ingest (some of which undoubtingly find their way into their milk ). However, I believe that dairy from farms where animals are well treated, such as organic ones, is acceptable.

Tips on Sleep

Sleep is most important for maintenance of health and longevity for the human beings. It is appropriately called ' Jagaddhatri ' because of its mechanism of overcoming wear and tear of the body due to physical work and mental stress and tissue loss.Numerous researches have shown the adverse effects of lack of sleep on mind and body.

  • One should sleep with head to the east or north.
  • The bedroom should be absolutely clean, well ventilated and free from noise and disturbance.
  • The bed must be nest clean and free from bugs.
  • The bedroom should be draught free.
  • One should avoid sleep when the brain is excited e.g after reading, thinking, drinking etc.
  • The mind must be as free from worldly affairs and worries as possible while going to bed. This may be achieved by praying to God at the time of going to bed.
  • Sleeping late at night leads to ill health.
  • A minimum of 7 hours sleep is required in 24 hours to repair the wear and tear of the body.
  • Sleep during the day should be avoided as far as possible. However, if one keeps awake at night, he can take some sleep in the daytime. Day sleep is not contraindicated in summer but in winter the day sleep increases kapha thereby causing respiratory and digestive troubles.
  • It is advisable to massage the head, soles and palms with, oil before going to bed. By massage dreams can be controlled.

Tips on Diet

What we eat has a profound effect on our mind as well as the body.It is not only important as to what we eat but it is equally important as to how we eat. Following are a few tips on diet which help in getting the best out of what we eat. Fresh ginger with a small amount of salt should be taken 10 to 20 minutes before food.

  • The diet, especially hard substances should be properly chewed.
  • Wherever possible intake of curd or buttermilk should follow food.
  • The food should be tasty, fresh and good in appearance.
  • It should neither be very hot nor absolutely cold.
  • Water should be avoided at least 15 minutes before food. The quantity of water after food should be small.Let it be drunk often.
  • Heavy (Guru) food should be taken in a limited quantity.
  • Heavy food should not be taken at night. The proper time of night meal is two to three hours before going to bed. After night meal,it is better to go for a short walk, of say hundred steps.
  • Heavy work or exercise should be avoided after food.
  • After meals, heavy mental or physical work should be avoided. Some rest is advisable for proper digestion of food.

Benefits of Pranic Healing

  • It can help parent bring down the temperature of their children suffering from high fever in just a few hours and heal it in a day or two in most cases.
  • It can relieve headaches, gas pains, toothaches, and muscle pains almost immediately in most cases.
  • Cough and cold can usually be cured in a day or two.Loose bowel movement can be healed in a few hours in most cases
  • Major illnesses such as eye, liver, kidney, and heart problems can be relieved in a few sessions and healed in a few months in many cases.
  • It increases the rate of healing by three times or more than the normal rate of healing. These are some of the few thing that pranic healing can do.All of these assume that the healer has attained a certain degree of proficiency.

Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is an ancient science and art of healing that utilizes prana or ki or life energy to heal the whole physical body.It also involves the manipulation of ki and bioplasmic matter of the patient 's body.It has also been called medical qigong ( ki kung or ki healing ),psychic healing, vitalic healing, therapeutic touch, laying of the hand, magnetic healing, faith healing ,and charismatic healing.

Two Basic Laws of Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is based on two laws ; The law of self-recovery and the law of prana or life energy. These laws are quite obvious but strangely they are usually the least noticed or least remembered by most people. It is through these basic laws that rapid or miraculous healing occurs.

Law of Self - Recovery

In general, the body is capable of healing itself at a certain rate.It a person has a wound or burn, the body will heal itself and recover within a few days to a week.In other words, even if you do not apply antibiotic on the wound or burn, the body will repair or heal itself. At the present moment, there is no medicine available for the treatment of viral infection. But even if a person has cough or cold due to viral infection, the body will recover generally in one or two weeks without medication.

Law of Lift Energy

For life to exist, the body must have prana, chi or life energy. The healing process can be accelerated by increasing life energy on the affected part and on the entire body.

In chemistry, electrical energy is sometimes used as a catalyst to increase the rate of chemical reaction. This is the basis for photography. In electrolysis, electricity is used to catalyze or produce chemical reaction. In pranic healing, prana or life energy serves as the catalyst to accelerate the rate of biochemical reactions involved in the natural healing process of the body. When pranic energy is applied to the affected part of the body, the rate of healing increases tremendously.

What we call miraculous healing is nothing more than increasing the rate of self-recovery of the body. There is nothing supernatural or paranormal about pranic healing. It is simply based on natural laws that most people are not aware of.Although science is not able to detect and measure life energy or prana,it does not mean that prana does not exist or does not affect the health and well being of the body.In ancient times, people were not aware of the existence of electricity, its properties and practical uses. But this does not mean that electricity does not exist. One's ignorance in misperception and misconception of what is and what is not, what can be done and what cannot be done.

Children have more life energy than elderly people do.You notice that move a lot from morning to night, hardly getting tired at all. When suffering from a fracture, who heals faster - the child or the elderly? The broken bone of a child heals very fast while that of an elderly heals very slowly ; sometimes,it will not even heal at all.

Prana Or Ki

Prana or ki is that life energy which keeps the body alive and healthy. In Greek it is called ' pneuma', in polynesian 'mana', and in Hebrew 'ruah', which means 'breath of life '.The healer projects prana or life energy or the breath of life to the patient, thereby, healing the patient. It is through this process that this so-called 'miraculous healing' is accomplished.

Basically, there are three major sources of prana ; solar prana, air prana and ground prana is prana from sunlight. It invigorates the whole body and promotes good health. It can be obtained by sunbathing or exposure to sunlight for about five to ten minutes and by drinking water that has been exposed to sunlight.Prolonged exposure or too much solar prana would harm the whole physical body since it is quite potent.

Prana contained in the air is called air prana or air vitality globule.Air prana is absorbed by the lungs through breathing and is also absorbed directly by the energy centers of the bioplasmic body. These energy centers are called chakras.More air prana can be absorbed by deep slow rhythmic breathing than by short shallow breathing. It can also be absorbed through the pores of the skin by persons who have undergone certain training.

Prana contained in the ground is called ground prana or ground vitality globule. This is absorbed through the soles of the feet. This is done automatically and unconsciously. Walking barefoot increases the amount of ground prana absorbed by the body. One can learn to consciously draw in more ground prana to increase one's vitality, capacity to do more work, and ability to think more clearly.

Water absorbs prana from sunlight, air, and ground that it comes in contact with.Plants and trees absorb prana sunlight, air, water, and ground. Man and animals obtain prana from sunlight, air, ground, water, and food. Fresh food contains more prana than preserved food.

prana can also be projected to another person for healing.Persons with a lot of excess prana tend to make other people around them feel better and livelier. However, those who are depleted tend to unconsciously absorb prana from other people. You may have encountered persons who tend to make you feel tired or drained for no apparent reason at all.

Aura

Clairvoyants, with the use of their psychic faculties, have observed that every person is surrounded and interpenetrated by a luminous energy body called the bioplasmic body or aura. Just li8ke the visible physical body,it has a head, two arms, etc. In other words, the bioplasmic body looks like the visible physical body. This is why clairvoyants call it the etheric double or etheric body.

The word ' bioplasmic ' comes from ' bio ' which means life and plasma, which is the fourth state of matter, the first three being; solid, liquid, and gas. Plasma is ionized gas with positive and negative charged particles. This is not the same as blood plasma.Bioplasmic body means a living energy body made up of invisible subtle matter or etheric matter. To simplify the terminology, the term ' energy body ' will be used to replace the word ' bioplasmic body '.Science, with the use of kirlian photography, has rediscovered the energy body. With the aid of Kirlian photography, scientists have been able to study, observe, and take pictures of small bioplasmic articles like bioplasmic fingers, leaves, etc. It is through the energy body that prana or life energy is absorbed and distributed throughout the whole physical body.

Acupressure

Acupresssure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago, using the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's
life force energy to aid healing.Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points and meridians, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle but firm pressure and integrates bodywork therapies, therapeutic touch, somatic work, healing imagery, energy psychology, and message therapy techniques. There is no known anatomical or histological basis for the existence of acupuncture points or meridians.

Acu points used in treatment may or may not be in the same area of the body as the targeted symptom. The TCM theory for the selection of such points and their effectiveness is that they work by stimulating the meridian system to bring about relief by rebalancing yin, yang and qi (also spelled ''chi '') This theory is based on the paradigm of TCM, not that of science.

Advantages of Using Acupressure

Acupressure might work via release of endorphins opioid analgesics such as enkephalin, endorphin and dynorphins leading to alleviation of pain.Acupressure is considered to be a safe from of therapy and side effects are rare. It includes relieving pain, balancing the body, and maintaining good health.Acupressure 's healing touch reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply.By relieving stress, acupressure therapy strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.

The ancient art of Acupressure point therapy releases tension, increases the circulation of blood, and heightens the body 's vital life energy to aid healing. Acupuncture point and Acupressure points are identical : however Acupuncture employs needles, while Acupressure points use gentle but firm finger pressure.Acupressure points relieve pain, trauma, burnout, and maintains good health through self-care.By relaxing the body and relieving stress, acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.

Tension tends to concentrate around acupressure points ( also referred to as acupoints or acu-points ). When a muscle is chronically tense or in spasm, the muscle fibers contract due to the secretion of lactic acid caused by fatigue, trauma, stress, chemical imbalances, or poor circulation. As an Acupressure point is held, the muscle tension yields to the finger pressure, enabling the fibers to elongate and relax, blood to flow freely, and toxins to be released and eliminated.Increased circulation also brings more oxygen and other nutrients to affected areas. This increases the body' s resistance to illness and bioelectrical energy circulate properly, there is a greater sense of harmony, health, and well-being.

Use prolonged finger pressure directly on an Acupressure point; gradual, steady, penetrating for approximately three minutes is ideal. Each acu-point will feel somewhat different when you press it; some points feel tense, while others are often sore or ache when pressed.

Meridians

The skin itself us now known to be the highly resistant envelope of the body.Within which these electrical energy transverse the path of least resistance. According to chinese interpretation or concept vital energy per meter each and every living cell and tissue. This includes skin and subcutaneous tissue.Circulation of this surface energy follows a determined path. These various path ways from pattern of lines called Acupuncture meridians or peripheral circulation. The chinese found out that stimulating certain Acupuncture points on the body cured particular organ disorders. They joined such points in a row and called its lung meridians. Vital energy can be manipulated only where at can be reached, i .e.,Acupuncture points on the skin.these Acupuncture points are superficial circulation. Path of circulation of energy among the organ, i.e., from one organ to another is called deep circulation. Deep circulation cannot be acted upon directly.Deep circulation and superficial circulation are linked with numerous internal pathways which and called connecting path ways,or mediate pathways.
Thus there are there type of circulations.
(i) Superfical circulation (Meridians ) or Direct Meridians.
(ii) Deep circulation also known as core circulation (organs connected to each other by fure element theory ) There are called organ meridians.
(iii) Connecting pathways. There connect deep circulation with superficial circulation and is called intermediate circulation. Thus, the entire meridians system in inter connected and hence called meridians complex, through which energy flows continuously in close circulation .
Meridians are in two directions
(i) Centrifugal - Heart to periphery
(ii) centripetal - periphery to Heart
Element Anatomy of Acupuncture consists of the knowledge of meridians, their pathways and the direction and also the perfect location of Acupuncture points. The pathways of all meridians are bilateral and symmetrical, except for two meridians there meridians are Ren and Du which run in the mid line of the front and back of the body. Meridians are called '' jing '' in france and '' channel'' in America. Meridians running vertically from below upwards or above downwards are the main meridians and traditionally termed as jing. There are twelve regular meridians and eight extra meridians that link two main meridians together are called two. This in a jing luo system. (Meridians and collaterals ). Meridian in in direct connection with the organ concerned. Each Meridians particularly associated with the special inner organ, function, process or system, take the name of that organ.Meridians which are not bilateral are in the mid line. The names of the meridians have been translated into english in various ways to relate them the chinese concept of the meridians ,function and the organs or the body system to which they have special relationship. Some of there names are misleading or meanings. The organs after which the meridians are named are not involved in the etiology or pathology of the conditions treated by using Acupuncture points on the meridians thus the effective of the points on the gall bladder meridians in bot affected by the removal of the patients gall bladder points on the gall bladder meridians are useful for treating a variety of medical problems which seen unrelated to it.Some body structures such as joint, and muscles, brain, sex organ, most commonly treated by Acupuncture have no special meridian.Muscles and tendons are controlled by the gall bladder meridians while bones are controlled by kidney meridian.Brain in controlled by the heart and pericardium meridians and sex organs by kidney,Ren,Liver and Spleen meridians chinese concept of the meridians, functions and the organ of the body system. Have special relationship with each other meridians do not follow any of the anatomical paths known to the western word as nerves, veins or arteries. But angeina pectoris pain follows the path of the rear meridian up to the little thing.Ever though there in no anatomical link between heart and the little thing this pain path coincidess exactly with the path of the heart meridians of traditional chinese meridians. The reality of the heart meridians cannot be demonstrated by dissection but can be shown in the living persons. The report which exists between meridians and the corresponding organ are very difficult to explain.

Acupuncture points & Meridians

Acupuncture points are the points on the body which when pricked with the needle or stimulated with the probe or similar device, can cure certain disease or disorders in the body.Vital energy can be influenced by in the energy can be restored. These points are electrically low resistant points. Delta fibers ands sympathetic energy up to the skin level and concentrate in that region us low resistance. The resistance of Acupuncture point is 100 to 200 kilo ohms. Normal skin resistance to the electricity is one mega ohm at oil gets pressure. This proves that there in a special structure under the skin at Acupuncture point. The entire system of Ryodoroku treatment that is practiced in most of the modern hospitals in japan ;in a further extension of the same principles. Acupuncture points and have higher milli volt potential than adjacent skin areas. There is a steady and larger current response in an in sorrounding tissue.Tissue sorrounding the acupuncture point has higher density. Tissue under the Acupuncture point in less dense than that of sorrounding tissue. It is usually in the depression. In krillian photography evidence of existence of Acupuncture point on radiation field in obtained. The chinese have different names for each Acupuncture point. These names do give any clue to the meridian or the part of the body when it in located neither do they indicate the potential therapeutic purpose for which the point might be used. There names seen some what like the names of towns and have no medical significance. Hence instead of learning the names, the numbers on the meridians are cases to follow and remember.

Concept of Qi

Energy which is applicable to the human body is called vital energy. In other words Qi which can be manipulated with the Acupuncture needle in called 'jing Qi ' or vita energy which circulates in the meridians. Life process is activated and maintained by the energy or Qi or the vital force. Law of nature in formed by the behaviour of the vital force eg rhythm periodicity polarization and depolarization. The human body carries certain amount of Q I at birth. this quota of energy given to ones body is definite (say x+y). The energy of the internal circuit cannot be created or eliminated, only transformed from one place to another. It is depleted by the daily activities of the body and argumented by the intake of the food and air depletion or reinforcement when in balance maintain growth and health but unbalance results ill health and absence of the energy in death purpose of Acupuncture is therefore to balance the imbalanced energy by giving needles at in Acupuncture point. It is well known fact that the fetus has an independent energy or Qi. This Qi which nourishes the unborn in called the Qi of formers heaven or prenatal Qi or Qi of unborn.Qi which fills the born in called Qi of later heaven or post natal Qi orQi of born. When the baby in born she can live without anything by mouth for at least 6 to 8 hours. That means she in living only on the Qi from lung O2.This process that for Qi of later heaven, the lung in a very important organ. The inability of the body to extract Qi from air, food and water in just as much a cause of death as its deprivation of them true Qi in a combination of what is received from the heavens and the Qi of water and food. That means true Qi informed by breathing and eating. It permeates the whole body.True Qi in the original Qi. Qi from heaven in received through the nose and controlled by the wind pipe, and is extracted by the lungs.Qi from food and water enters the stomach and in controlled by the gullet and in extracted by the spleen and stomach source Qi, known as Qi of kidney is inherited from the parents and related to the reproductive function. It is referred to as congenital Qi or Qi of former heaven rch or prenatal Qi true Qi obtained from the food and air in also called acquired Qi It in the same as Qi of later heaven or post natal Qi.Qi in universal. The root of the way of lift, birth and change in Qi. All things in heaven and earth obey this law.Qi in the periphery envelops heaven and earth.Qi in the interior activates them. Mans possession of lift in completely dependent upon this Qi.In chinese treaties on Acupuncture, the effect of pricking the skin with the needle in called " obtaining Qi " and if the needle fails to obtain Qi,the acupuncture treatment will be ineffective. Thus one in able to small only if lung Qi penetrated the nose. One can distinguish the colours of liver Qi penetrates the eyes. One can taste only if heart Qi penetrates the tongue. One likes or dislikes food only at spleen Qi penetrates the mouth the capabilities of seven holes( Eyes, Mouth, Nose) depand upon the penetration of the Qi from solid organs.Qi is not stationary in the body.It circulates in the body like blood. This circulation is two types.
(I) That of nourishing Qi through meridians like blood vessels .
(II) That of protecting Qi- between the siw and the flesh in the subcutaneous tissue.Nourishing Qi impure Qi ; Protecting Qi in less pure.Pure part of the and products of the assimilated food in nourishing Qi and less pure part in protecting Qi.Nourishing Qi in with in the meridians. protecting Qi outside the meridians. As protecting Qi in formed from the causes part of the products of digestion (i,e., because its crude origin)its in rough and has more aggressive properties. If therefore, cannot penetrate the delicate meridians and hence circulates in the subcutaneous tissue. protecting Qi warms the subcutaneous tissue, moistens the skin, controls the opening and closing of the pores and nourishes the space between the skin and the flesh. If protecting Qi is too weak to permeate the subcutaneous tissue, and to protect it from outside evil, nourishing Qi comes to its rescue, causing blood vessels and meridians and muscles to suffer because of a lack of Qi, and hence the patient suffers from heumatism preumonia etc.Important function of the protecting Qi in to protect the body from outside invading evil. If for example wind and cold invade the body.Protecting Qi meets the invasion by producing the derise for warmth and manifestation of fever, on the other hand, the unvasion in successful, that means either the evil in too strong or protecting Qi in weak,in which care the patient will fall a victim to the disease.Like pneumonia or rheumatism. Nourishing Qi is considered as '' yin Qi it circulates with the blood in the interior of the body ''. Qi in considered as '' yang Qi '' it circulates under surface of the body and is not associated with the blood.Nourishing Qi which is present in the organs in delicate in texture. It nourishes the tissue.Chinese monks perform certain type of breathing exercise to transfer rough and impure energy of the body unto pure agents. They call it ''Golden Elixir '' also named prenatal breathing. They transfrom grey hair unto black with this type of breathing.
Qi, Vital energy, Prana, Concept of Qi

Qi or Vital Energy Chi

The chinese believe that energy flows through the human body continuously. This is a vital motivating force, which burns like a fuel all through ones like. It is called Qi or Chi vital energy. Indian philosophers who share this idea know it is prana Indian yogis call it as prana wayu. In theosophy or Antheropology, it is called ether or etheric body. As long prana or prana wayu exists in the body the heart beats. The brain works the lung breath and whole organism stay as a living miracle and one has seen prana but the concept is age-old and unchallenged. This principle of prana is quite similar to the traditional chinese concept of Qi is universal and present at all times. If the flow of Qi cases, it is death. If formed continuously and utilized continuously in ones body. If permeates all living cells and tissues in the body and pervades the entire universe. If in an invisible force responsible for all the activities of life. It cannot be seen or measured but can be palpated. As the energy is used continuously in the body,it is also formed continuously by two factors.Intrinsic - From digested and assimilated food products inside the body.Extrinsic - O2 and water taken from the outside.Vital energy. Acupuncture Needle

Ever wonder where acupuncture needles came from, how they evolved,
and how
they ' re used today?

Here are some highlights from the history of these ancient healing
devices, whichare still
widely and effectively used today ;

1. The earliest acupuncture devices were made of stone. These were not used to pierce theskin, but rather to press on acupuncture points.
2. Historians presume that metal needles ; thorns, bamboo sliver, or sharpened bone were used to stimulate acupuncture points.
3. The oldest acupuncture needles found date to A.D.600. These needles were made of bronze, copper, tin, gold and silver.
4. In the fourth century A.D.,China began using steel. Once steel was discovered, it be came the most favored material for crafting acupuncture needles because it is both very strongand can be used to make very thin needles.
5. In the 17th century, Waichi sugiyama - a famous blind acupuncturist from Japan -invented the guide tube which resulted in the development of much finer needles.
6. The acupuncture needles most commonly used in present - day practice are made of stainless, steel of very fine diameter ( approximatr0.015'' ) These are pre-packaged, sterilized, and disposable.
7. In the yellow emperor ' s classic of internal medicine ( one of the original chinese medicine textbooks ), nine different types of needles are mentioned as being used for acupuncture treatments. Each one had a different tip and aprecise length and width.
8. Studies have shown that acupuncture points have significantly more electrical conductivity than areas of skin without acupuncture points.
9. In 1995, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified acupuncture needles as medical instrument, assuring their safety and effectiveness.
10. According to a National Health Interview Survey, an estimated 8.2 million U.S. adults had used acupuncture in the past, and an estimated 2.1 million U.S. adults had used acupuncture in the previous year.
11. Usually needles are inserted from 1/4 to 1 inch in depth. Depth of insertion will depend on the patient 's size, age, constitution, and the nature of the condition being treated.
12. A popular acupuncture point for treating sciatica is located on the buttocks. An acupuncture needle is usually inserted three to four inches into this acupuncture point.

Brain Damage

1. No Breakfast people who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficients supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.
2. Overeating it causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power
3. Smoking it causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.
4. High sugar consumption Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.
5. Air polluting the brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling pollutedair decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decreasein brainefficiency.
6. sleep Deprivation sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.
7. Head covered while sleeping, sleeping with the head covered increases the concentrationof carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that maylead to brain damaging effects.
8. Working your brain during illness working hard or studying with sickness may lead to decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.
9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.
10. Talking rarely intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain.bad habits, brain damaging habits, unhealthy habits, ugly habits,

what is Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the extrenal for internal disorders. The treatment is carried out by inserting acupuncture needles at various pre-determined points over the body. The term"acupuncture" isderived from the latin word acus (needles) and pungere (puncture) or prick. acupuncture treatment also includes moxibution and hydrotherapy. Originally acupuncture was not developedas a science but as an art. The ancient and traditional chinese art of healing. Now, however becauseof the tremendous research being carried out in the East as well as west, it is developing into ascience. Acupuncture is a philosophical approach towards the human body and mind. It is adrugless therapy and therefore least damaging to the physique. A Chinese book called 'dictionary of Characters' which existed 2000 years agomentions "pien" which is the curing of disease by pressing with stones, 'Huang di Nei jing' yellowEmperor's Classic of Internal Medicine is supposed to the oldest medical text in the world.presented as a dialogue between the yellow Emperor and his prime Minister physician QiBO. This book is in two sections. The first 'Su Wen' ( simple questions) contains the principles ofgeneral medicine, and the second 'Ling Shu' (Magic Gate or Spiritual Pivot) describes varioustherapeutic methods (1)Herbal acupuncture (2) Moxibustion, (3) Surgery. The use of metal needles had evolved by the time of Huang Di Neijing. This book also contains information aboutchannels. (meridians), acupuncture points, needles, methods of insertion, diseases, etc.edicaldiagnosis at that time was based upon pulse diagnosis. The dyty of the doctor was to instruct the patient how to keep himself fit and prevention was given more importan.
